Hello. My name is Gail Mercer-MacKay and for years I dreamed about what it might be like to make my living as a writer. It took a big event (getting fired from my job) and a big leap of faith to make my dream a reality.
That was the fall of 2007 and today I am happy to tell you that I am a successful freelance writer who makes over six figures annually and I love getting up in the morning to write stories for my clients.
For me it feels like a miracle. You see, I never trained professionally as a writer. My career was in information technology. And when I decided I was going to pursue writing, all of my writing friends told me – STOP – don’t do it. You will starve.
Well, my friends were wrong. I didn’t starve. In fact, I discovered a secret. That the market for freelance writers is hot and the market is growing fast. I learned where the best freelance assignments are and how to get them. My business grew so fast that I had to sub-contract work out to those same friends who first told me I wasn’t going to make it. That’s right. In about a year I was making more money than professional writers who had been writing their entire career.
Those same friends also asked me to teach them what I know. Then their friends asked for help, and before I knew it, I was getting requests each week from people who wanted to know how they could do what I do.
It was my good friend Karen who convinced me that I needed to put all my knowledge and experience into a course to coach and mentor people like me who are ready to make writing a full-time occupation. It took her two years before I finally gave in and taught my first course. We thought that if it was a good course, about half of the people might make it to the end. Imagine our surprise when not only all the members of that first group stuck with it, but the group doubled in size – the members kept bringing new people to join each week.
The feedback we received was that this was the only course they would need to take to establish and grow their own freelance writing business. Many of them began making money before the course was over and several of them work as freelancers for me today.
If you have a dream of becoming a freelance writer. If you want to make over six figures a year. If you want to travel and write your stories from anywhere in the world then I would encourage you to consider taking one of my courses. Go to the Programs page to get more info.
